Fun Stuff

My friend, Ollie and her husband are involved with a new company here in town. I have been admiring their stuff for awhile and finally bit the bullet this week and ordered a shirt for Sammy

and a bag for myself (because I'm weak...).

I am completely in love with both things. The shirt is amazingly soft. And the bag WILL become my new church bag / daytrip bag / go to bag. The fun part is that since Cheeky and Swank are celebrating their grand opening, they are having a sale. Enter the promo cheekyfriends at checkout to get 20%. Doing our part for the economy AND saving a little money. Sweet!

Six

It's been six months today since we moved to Utah. Isaac and I both feel as though we've been here much longer. I wonder how much that has to do with the fact we didn't have to go through the usual 'new town' learning curve and just jumped right in?

We've gone from this:

To this:

Sammy has grown two pounds and five inches from his 18 month appointment to his 2 year appointment.

But I think the biggest change, and surprise, is how we just...fit here. Everything seems to be going really, really well. Better than expected. And although that makes me a little nervous, I'm mostly just relieved.

I've always made guy friends more easily than girlfriends. In high school and college. Which is how Isaac and I became such good friends two years before we got married. It was easy to be friends with him. After we were married, we had mostly couple friends. In Portland and San Diego, while I had a handful of girlfriends, each area was challenging in different ways where girlfriends were concerned.

I admit, with past experiences here, I was nervous to move and try to find friends. It was often on my mind. However, I have been incredibly blessed the past few months to meet a great group of girls. I've been even more blessed to have "passed the test" and been welcomed into their group with open arms. I had my first girl's night with them Monday night and I had forgotten how much fun it is to get together with a group of girlfriends and talk and laugh and eat. But more important, how nice it is to just fit and be yourself.

This six months has been ever changing. Most of it good. Some of it learning. A little disappointing at times. So, a lifetime of stuff, condensed. We have some solid plans going forward with our business and house and Sammy. We're looking forward. To a lot. And, six months ago, that's all I was hoping for.

No One Likes Change

Isaac and I are trying to eat a little healthier**. We didn't do terribly before, but the thought was everyone can improve. So we bumped up our veggie / fruit intake. I didn't think it was really having any negative effect on me until last night. Last night I dreamt of Maggie's Buns...

Maggie's is a funky little restaurant near where we lived in Oregon. Her pastries are divine. Her orange rolls put me at a loss for words. Maggie's is near Pizza Schmizza and Scottie's (best shakes EVER) and once I start thinking about all the good food I'm missing in Portland, I nearly weep with sadness. However, it usually all starts with thinking about Maggie's.

(When I told Isaac, he immediately commented how he was glad he knew I was referring to a restaurant and not a person, because that would be a sad commentary on our healthier eating, indeed.)

I don't think I've ever had such a vivid dream about food before; especially pastries. But this dream was never ending and the restaurant was at the center of every scene. All roads lead back to rolls. Too bad Portland is a little too far for a road trip right now. I can think of several things on her menu that would go well with raw veggies. Like scones. Or pasta. Or cookies. Or...

**full disclosure - I AM eating M&Ms while I type this. However, I'm choosing to look at it as promotion of one of Sammy's favorite letters ("Letter of the Day" if you will), instead of ignoring our eating healthier agenda.
